What's New

After much debate about the health risks of CCA treatment applied to traditionally treated wood, lumber associations have voluntarily chosen a new method for pressure treating wood for consumer products.

The new treatment process that will be most commonly used is (ACQ), a copper plus quat preservative system that provides long-term protection from rot, decay and termite without the use of the toxins arsenic or chromium. While this new treatment sounds great it does pose a few challenges for the consumer. Namely a hit to the wallet. The new ACQ treated wood is on average 15-20% more expensive than conventional CCA treated wood. Not only that, ACQ treatments are corrosive to steel, which is found in connectors, anchors and fasteners. This means new types of fasteners will be required. In order to give our customers a chance to avoid the new expenses incurred by the ACQ treated lumber, Standard has brought in enough CCA treated wood to last the first 6 months of 2004 depending on demand.  If you are interested in ordering some of the new treated lumber, it is also available.
